Malta Futsal Association President Perit Mark Borg has been appointed as a UEFA delegate for the UEFA Futsal European Championship Finals 2026, a prestigious honour that reflects positively on both Maltese futsal and Maltese sport on the international stage.
The tournament will be held between 21 January and 7 February 2026 and will be jointly hosted by Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia.

Borg has been assigned to oversee Group D, which includes Italy, Hungary, Poland and reigning champions Portugal. All matches in this group will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In his role as UEFA delegate, Borg will be responsible for supervising the overall organisation of matches, ensuring full compliance with UEFA regulations and operational standards. His duties include monitoring venue infrastructure, medical services, venue operations and general match coordination, while working closely with UEFA officials and tournament organisers.
This appointment marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time a Maltese official has been entrusted with a senior operational role at the final stages of a European futsal championship, highlighting the growing credibility and recognition of Malta within the international futsal community.

Borg has served as President of the Malta Futsal Association for the past 13 years and has previously been involved in various international competitions and mini tournaments, including UEFA Champions League fixtures, European competitions and World Cup-related events. However, this represents his first appointment at the final stage of a major UEFA futsal tournament, underlining the trust placed in his experience and professionalism.
Part of his responsibilities will also include acting as a liaison between participating teams and UEFA, managing day-to-day operational matters to ensure the smooth delivery of the competition.
Commenting on his appointment, Perit Borg described the opportunity as a great honour not only for himself, but also for the Malta Futsal Association, the Malta Football Association and Maltese sport as a whole. He added that futsal in Malta continues to earn increasing respect at the European level, a status further reinforced by the recent appointment of Dr Paris to the UEFA Futsal Committee.
