Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi, is set to go on trial over an alleged rape from February 2023, according to reports from French authorities and the player’s lawyer.
Hakimi has denied the accusation. Writing on social media, he said that an allegation alone is now enough for a case to go to trial, even though he strongly contests it. He added that he is calmly waiting for the trial and believes it will allow the truth to come out in public.
In late February 2023, a 24-year-old woman went to a police station and reported that she had been raped. However, she did not make a formal complaint at the time.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, said the decision to send the case to trial is based only on the woman’s statement. She claimed that the woman refused medical examinations and DNA tests, did not allow her phone to be checked, and would not name a key witness. The lawyer also said that psychological assessments showed a lack of clarity in the woman’s account and alleged that messages suggested a plan to rob Hakimi.
The woman’s lawyer rejected any suggestion of attempted extortion and said there is nothing in the case to support that claim. She added that they will not accept any attempts to discredit her client and are ready to fight the case in court.
At the time of writing, PSG had not made an official comment.
