Sebastian Vettel has shocked the world by deciding to retire at the end of the current F1 season, and his father has revealed the moment that pushed him to do so.
A four-time world champion from his time in Red Bull, he did not continue with the same successes later in Ferrari, and even now in Aston Martin. The quality of the cars of the current team simply cannot provide it with the opportunity to fight for the highest ranking.
However, his father, Norbert, reveals that the recent Austrian Grand Prix was decisive in the decision to retire.
– It’s a pity, but I understand him. He had an amazing career, but in Austria he hit the lowest point. It hurt him that he had to drive at the very back. That certainly triggered his decision – explained Norbert Vettel in a statement for RTL.
Let’s remind you, Vettel’s last victory was in Ferrari 2019, and in the last two seasons he managed to finish on the podium only once.
