Four-time world champion Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel said that he would boycott the Formula 1 race for the Russian Grand Prix, if it is held, after the country’s attack on Ukraine.
The management of Formula 1 announced that it was “carefully monitoring the situation”, but did not state whether it would cancel the race in Russia, which is scheduled for September 25 in Sochi.
– I woke up shocked by the news this morning, I don’t know. I think it’s awful to see what’s going on. When you look at the competition calendar, we have a race in Russia. I don’t think I should go, I don’t want to go. I think it is wrong to race in that country – said Vettel, Sky reported.
Russia attacked Ukraine this morning, after which the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared a state of war.
– I feel sorry for innocent people who are losing their lives, who are dying for stupid reasons, and very, very strange and crazy leadership. I’m sure we’ll talk about it, but I’m shocked and sad about what’s going on. We will see what will happen, but I have already made the decision – said Vettel.
