McLaren’s Lando Norris won an action packed Miami Sprint race leapfrogging his team mate Oscar Piastri who had snatched first place from Mercedes Rookie Kimi Antonelli.
That Norris win swings the title race once again. He’s now nine points (the previous gap was 10) back on his teammate in the standings.
That was like the 2024 Miami GP in microcosm. Yes, the safety car sealed the race in Norris’s favour, but he looked the quicker McLaren driver before the pitstops and only dropped back when the spray was at its worst early on.
Given all the scrutiny on Lando Norris lately, and the recent swing in momentum to teammate Oscar Piastri in the title fight, this was a much needed result for the British driver to turn the tide a bit. As Piastri noted in his radio call, yes it was fortunate, but a win’s a win. Norris needs to build on this going into the rest of the weekend now if he wants to truly turn things back in his direction.
