Hazekawa brace gives Birkirkara Women win against Breznica

Birkirkara Women emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Montenegrin side Breznica at the Centenary Stadium in the Round 1 semi finals of the Qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

It was Breznica who took the lead in the 17th minute through Marijana Jankov’s goal, ending the first half 1-0 in their favor. In the second half, Birkirkara’s opponents suffered a setback when Aleksandra Vujosevic received two yellow cards within the space of 11 minutes, reducing them to ten players.

The Stripes equalized in the dying minutes of the game with a goal from Yuna Hazekawa, making it 1-1 until the 90th minute and resulting in the match heading into extra time.

In the 109th minute, Birkirkara were awarded a penalty which was taken by Yuna Hazekawa herself and did not miss, securing a 2-1 victory for Birkirkara.

Birkirkara Women., led by Vince Galea, will now face Belgian champions Anderlecht on Saturday, September 7th at the Centenary Stadium.
