Tottenham Hotspur are through to an all-English UEFA Europa League final after comfortably seeing off Bodo/Glimt 2-0 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate, bringing an end to the Norwegian side’s dream run.
On a cold, misty evening inside the Arctic Circle, Ange Postecoglou’s side showed composure and quality to book a sixth European final in their history, ensuring the travelling supporters were rewarded with a clinical second-half display.
Spurs started on the front foot, with Richarlison threatening inside two minutes, though his early strike was blocked. The hosts responded with some early aggression, as Ole Didrik Blomberg fired narrowly wide from a tight angle after escaping his marker at a corner.
Despite some early exchanges, it was Tottenham who began to settle. Destiny Udogie’s cross midway through the first half almost found Brennan Johnson, but Nikita Haikin reacted smartly to parry. Moments later, Pedro Porro’s curling free-kick forced the Russian goalkeeper into another flying save, before Bodo/Glimt briefly rallied with a set-piece threat. Guglielmo Vicario did well to punch away Patrick Berg’s delivery, while Kasper Høgh went close with a glancing header.
The hosts pressed with increased urgency after the restart, causing some nervous moments in the Tottenham box. Udogie was on hand to clear a goalmouth scramble, and again showed sharp defensive instincts when he diverted a dangerous Fredrik André Bjørkan cross from almost underneath his own bar.
That intervention proved crucial as, minutes later, Spurs landed the decisive blow. Cristian Romero rose highest from a corner and Dominic Solanke was in the right place to tuck home the knockdown from close range, silencing the partisan crowd.
The result was sealed shortly afterwards in a peculiar fashion. Pedro Porro’s curling delivery from the right, likely intended as a cross, caught Haikin off guard and bounced in off the inside of the post. The Spaniard wheeled away in celebration as Spurs put the tie beyond doubt.
From there, Tottenham managed the game with maturity, ending Bodo/Glimt’s formidable six-game winning streak at home and ensuring they will contest the Europa League final against Premier League opposition.
It was a professional performance that gave Postecoglou the chance to end a turbulent domestic season on a high. One more win, and Tottenham will lift their first major European trophy since 1984.
