Genoa have appointed Daniele De Rossi as their new manager after sacking Patrick Vieira. The team had not won any of their first nine games this season, leaving them bottom of Serie A. Domenico Criscito temporarily took charge and helped Genoa earn their first win of the season, a 2–1 victory over Sassuolo.
De Rossi, 42, who spent most of his playing career at AS Roma, met the players and led his first training session on Thursday. He previously managed Roma, guiding them to sixth place in Serie A and the Europa League semi-finals before being dismissed in September after a poor start to the new season.
Genoa’s next match will be at home against Fiorentina, who also recently sacked their coach, Stefano Pioli, after a disappointing run of results.
