Spain leapfrog Argentina to lead FIFA Men’s World Rankings

Spain have returned to the summit of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking for the first time since June 2014, following their triumph at UEFA EURO 2024 and a strong showing in recent World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

The reigning European champions leapfrogged both Argentina and France to claim top spot. Argentina, who had held first place since April 2023, now drop to third. France move into second place after steady performances in recent fixtures.

The latest ranking update reflects over 200 international matches played since the previous edition, including a busy round of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers across Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

Portugal, Croatia, and Italy have also edged higher, climbing into 5th, 9th, and 10th positions respectively. Brazil slip one place to 6th, while Germany drop three places to 12th after a surprise defeat to Slovakia — a result that sees them fall outside the top 10 for the first time since October 2024.

Morocco (11th, up 1) are now knocking on the door of the top 10, having won eight of their last nine matches.

Slovakia are the biggest movers in this edition of the rankings. Their 10-place jump to 42nd comes on the back of two impressive World Cup qualifying wins, including the upset over Germany.

Other significant climbers include The Gambia (115th, up 8), Madagascar (108th, up 7), Paraguay (37th, up 6), Uganda (82nd, up 6), Libya (112th, up 5), Suriname (131st, up 5), and the Faroe Islands (136th, up 5).

Canada (26th, up 2) and Kosovo (91st, up 4) continue to make historic progress, both achieving new national highs in the rankings.
