Croatian defender Domagoj Vida has announced his retirement from international football following a 14-year career with the national team, according to the Croatian Football Federation on Sunday.

At 35 years old, Vida first appeared on the international stage in May 2010 and has since represented Croatia in 105 matches. He was a key player for the team that reached the World Cup final in 2018 and secured third place in the 2022 World Cup.
“It’s a privilege to wear the most beautiful jersey in the world, even once in your lifetime,” Vida expressed in a statement.

“And when you do it 105 times, participating in seven major tournaments … it’s something to be endlessly thankful for.”
Previously with Bayer Leverkusen and Besiktas, Vida is currently playing for Greek top-tier club AEK Athens.
