Two red cards in rain-soaked match as United edge Chelsea

In a rainy evening at Old Trafford, Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League. The match was intense, with both sides finishing the first half with ten players after early red cards.

Just five minutes into the game, Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez rushed out to challenge Bryan Mbeumo but fouled him after being beaten to a flick-on by Benjamin Šeško. Sánchez was shown a red card, leaving Chelsea to play most of the match with ten men. This early setback made life difficult for Chelsea.

Manchester United quickly took advantage. In the 14th minute, Bruno Fernandes scored his 100th goal for the club, turning in a header from Patrick Dorgu to put United 1-0 up. Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, tried to change things with a double substitution, but United’s pressure remained strong.

The visitors struggled to clear a cross from a short corner, allowing Luke Shaw to keep the ball in play. Casemiro seized the opportunity and headed home to double United’s lead before half-time.

Just before the break, Casemiro was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for fouling Andrey Santos, meaning both teams went into the second half with ten players.

The second half was marked by a gritty battle in tough conditions, with water splashing up from the wet pitch. Chelsea tried to create chances and thought they had scored when Wesley Fofana headed in from a corner, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Chelsea’s persistence paid off with ten minutes to go when Reece James crossed the ball into the box, and Trevoh Chalobah rose above the defenders to head past United’s goalkeeper Altay Bayındır, pulling a goal back for Chelsea.

United’s nerves were tested in the final minutes, but they held firm. Manuel Ugarte made a crucial block to deny Santos a late chance, and the Red Devils saw out seven minutes of added time to secure the win.

This victory extends Manchester United’s unbeaten home run against Chelsea in the Premier League to 13 matches. It also marks Chelsea’s first league defeat of the season and leaves them winless in their last three games across all competitions.
