Bundesliga frontrunners Bayern Munich secured an 85th-minute equaliser courtesy of the in-form Jamal Musiala, resulting in a 1-1 stalemate against Borussia Dortmund in the Klassiker on Saturday, thus extending their lead at the summit to seven points.
Dortmund, who had triumphed in their last six home league matches this season, seized a 27th-minute advantage through Jamie Gittens’s magnificent solo effort. However, the visitors faced further adversity just six minutes later when their top scorer Harry Kane was forced off due to injury. Scheduled for a scan later on Saturday, Kane’s participation in next week’s German Cup tie against reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen is now in doubt. The Bavarian side, having won their previous seven fixtures across all competitions without conceding, showed improvement after the interval and created several opportunities but lacked precision until Musiala’s leveller. “We’re frustrated with the first half because we didn’t play as we intended. We improved after the break but hoped to score sooner,” commented Bayern’s Thomas Muller.

I had an opportunity, but Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, effectively narrowed the gap. Leroy also had a chance. Overall, a draw seems fair.
In an eventful first half, Dortmund was forced to substitute defender Waldemar Anton due to injury after just 17 minutes. The home side, however, capitalised on their initial opportunity when England youth talent Gittens shook off Konrad Laimer, surged into the penalty area, and fired a shot past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for his fourth goal in the league.
Bayern, still unbeaten in the league, saw Kane, who has scored 14 league goals, substituted with Thomas Mueller taking his place. The seasoned player nearly scored two minutes into the second half when Musiala set him up in the box, but his close-range shot was blocked by keeper Gregor Kobel.

As the visitors took control, Musiala attempted a long-range shot from 20 metres with a low curl, followed by Leroy Sane’s close-range attempt that went wide due to a lackluster finish.
In the 62nd minute, Bayern’s Neuer was called upon to make a crucial save against Marcel Sabitzer, preserving his team’s chances. With just five minutes left, Musiala, left unguarded, headed in Michael Olise’s cross to net his sixth league goal. Bayern currently lead the standings with 30 points, holding a seven-point advantage over Eintracht Frankfurt, who face Heidenheim on Sunday. Dortmund sits in fifth place with 20 points.
