The Malta Billiards and Snooker Association has a long season of competitions that even extend to the summer months. Over the past few weeks, all the junior and team championships were held, and the new season is set to start with the first ranking tournament in a few days.
Similar to the previous two years, there were four categories for the juniors: under-21, under-18, under-16, and under-12. Matthias Debono emerged as the winner in the under-21 category, while the Castaldi brothers, Chaylon and Jake, took the honours in the under-18 and under-16 categories respectively. Xavier Rizzo was the other finalist in the three finals. In the youngest category, under-12s, Gregory Cachia defeated Adam Pace, who had won the previous two editions. The winners of all the junior categories will have the opportunity to play abroad and represent Malta in the upcoming European Junior Championships.
The team championship final this year was between Old Friends, consisting of Brian Cini, Philip Ciantar, and Ivan Attard, and AMC, formed by Aaron Busuttil, Matthew Calleja, and Clayton Goodrum. Eventually, Old Friends emerged victorious with a score of 5-2.
A few days ago, after the conclusion of these finals, the MBSA, together with SportMalta, took the necessary steps to change and fit new cloth on each table, in preparation for the start of the new season on Monday, where 60 players have registered to take part in the first ranking tournament. The final for this first competition of the season is scheduled for Friday, September 27. In the upcoming weeks, the MBSA, as in previous years, will also organize an event to honour all the winners of the just concluded season.
