Norris Tops Red-Flagged FP2 in Hungary

Lando Norris set the fastest time in the second practice session (FP2) of the Hungarian Grand Prix, navigating the red-flagged session to clock a lap time of 1’17.788 in his McLaren.

Norris outpaced the competition, demonstrating McLaren’s improved performance this season.

Max Verstappen, the current championship leader, finished the session in second place. The Red Bull driver managed a best lap of 1’18.031, trailing Norris by 0.243 seconds. Carlos Sainz continued his strong form for Ferrari, securing third place with a time of 1’18.185, just 0.397 seconds off the pace.

Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull, claimed the fourth spot with a lap time of 1’18.255, while George Russell in the Mercedes finished fifth, recording a time of 1’18.294.

Kevin Magnussen delivered an impressive performance for Haas, taking sixth place with a time of 1’18.315. Lewis Hamilton, Russell’s teammate at Mercedes, ended the session in seventh with a lap of 1’18.363. Daniel Ricciardo, back in action with Red Bull, finished eighth, posting a time of 1’18.371.

Williams’ Alexander Albon secured ninth place with a time of 1’18.514, while Fernando Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, completed the top ten with a lap of 1’18.519.

Valtteri Bottas from Sauber finished eleventh, followed by Logan Sargeant in twelfth. Bottas managed a time of 1’18.586, while Sargeant clocked 1’18.611. Oscar Piastri, Norris’s McLaren teammate, secured the thirteenth position with a time of 1’18.618.

Esteban Ocon in the Alpine took fourteenth place, recording a lap time of 1’18.754. Nico Hulkenberg, driving for Haas, finished fifteenth with a time of 1’18.791. Pierre Gasly, Ocon’s teammate at Alpine, was sixteenth with a lap of 1’18.888.

Lance Stroll had a challenging session, ending in seventeenth place with a time of 1’19.179. Charles Leclerc, who completed only eight laps, finished eighteenth for Ferrari with a time of 1’19.286. Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull and Zhou Guanyu of Sauber rounded out the field in nineteenth and twentieth, respectively. Tsunoda recorded a time of 1’19.606, while Zhou posted 1’20.067.

The session was interrupted by a red flag due to a minor incident, but all drivers managed to complete their runs. Teams will now analyze the data from both practice sessions to make adjustments ahead of qualifying and the race. The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend is set to deliver more thrilling action as the drivers push their limits on this challenging circuit.
