The YoHealth Malta Premier League fixture between Gżira United FC and Birkirkara FC, scheduled for Friday evening at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, was cancelled shortly before kick-off due to concerns about the height of the goalposts.

The match, originally set for 18:30 and delayed by 15 minutes, was called off after Birkirkara’s goalkeeper and club officials raised objections regarding the dimensions of the goal frame. Sources close to the fixture confirmed to Malta Sport that the two goalposts were measured at approximately 236 cm and 240 cm, falling short of the regulatory standard.
Under Law 1 of the Laws of the Game, as set out by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the required distance from the ground to the lower edge of the crossbar is 2.44 metres (244 cm).

The discrepancy meant the goals did not meet the minimum height requirements, prompting officials to cancel the match to comply with competition regulations.
Malta Sport will continue to follow developments as more information becomes available.
