Kane scores twice as Bayern beat Chelsea 3-1

Harry Kane scored twice to help Bayern Munich start their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Chelsea. The German side continued their perfect start to the season, while Chelsea couldn’t repeat their famous 2012 final win in Munich.

Chelsea returned to the Champions League after winning the Conference League and Club World Cup last season. They started well, with Malo Gusto and Cole Palmer causing problems down the right side. But Bayern grew into the match, and Harry Kane headed just over the bar before Bayern took the lead. Michael Olise crossed into the box and Trevoh Chalobah accidentally knocked the ball into his own net.

Soon after, Kane was brought down in the box by Moisés Caicedo and won a penalty. He calmly scored into the bottom right corner, his 24th penalty scored in 25 attempts for Bayern. However, Chelsea responded straight away. Palmer picked up the ball near the halfway line, ran forward, played a one-two with Gusto, and scored a lovely goal into the top corner.

Chelsea looked better at the start of the second half, but they failed to take their chances and allowed Bayern back into the game. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez made two great saves to stop Kane and Olise, but he couldn’t do anything when Gusto made a mistake and Kane punished it with a low finish into the corner.

Enzo Maresca made changes to try and rescue something, and Palmer thought he had scored a second goal, but it was ruled offside.

This win keeps Bayern’s 100% record going and gives manager Vincent Kompany confidence they can go further in the competition this season. Chelsea were the first team to score against Bayern at home this season, but their first away trip ended in defeat.
