VAR drama helps Verona stop Juventus streak

Hellas Verona are still looking for their first win of the Serie A season, but they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Juventus, ending the visitors’ perfect start to the 2025/26 league campaign.

Juventus were full of confidence after their thrilling 4-3 win over Inter Milan last weekend and took the lead after 19 minutes. Francisco Conceição cut in from the left and scored a brilliant goal into the bottom corner.

After that, Juventus started to lose control, and Verona slowly grew into the match. Just before half-time, a long throw-in caused confusion in the box. It looked like João Mário had cleared it with his head, but VAR showed the ball hit his arm. After a long delay, Gift Orban calmly scored the penalty, which bounced in off the bar.

Juventus had a big chance early in the second half when Dušan Vlahović was through on goal, but Verona keeper Lorenzo Montipò made a smart save.

Verona pushed forward and looked the more dangerous side. Orban forced another save, and then Suat Serdar scored from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside after another VAR check.

In the end, neither side could find a winner. Verona are now 15th in the table with three draws from four games, while Juventus move one point clear at the top.
