Fyodor Zammit has reinforced his status as the longest active serving referee in Maltese football, celebrating an extraordinary 25-year anniversary in officiating. Following the Jubilee Cup quarter final between Ħamrun Spartans and Valletta, Zammit shared a heartfelt message on social media: “Grateful, proud and still doing it with passion after 25 years.” His words reflect a career defined by commitment, consistency and a deep passion for the game.

Now 40 years old, Zammit has spent more than half his life refereeing, beginning his journey as a teenager and rising steadily through the ranks. His Premier League debut took place on 18 December 2010, and since then, he has amassed an impressive 218 Premier League matches, a total that places him among the top referees in Maltese football history and solidifies him as the most experienced active official in the league today.
In 2015, Zammit was appointed to the FIFA International Referees List, where he served until December 2020, officiating numerous international assignments and representing Malta in several UEFA and FIFA exchanges. On 3 October 2024, he reached the landmark of 200 Premier League games, continuing to build on that figure throughout the current season. So far this campaign, he has refereed six Premier League matches and three Jubilee Cup fixtures.

Zammit has also taken charge of the FA Trophy Final and a wide range of high-profile domestic encounters. His blend of experience, calmness and authority has earned him the respect of players, coaches and fellow officials alike.
With this year marking his personal Jubilee celebration, speculation naturally turns to whether he will be appointed for the Jubilee Cup Final or tasked with managing one of the key fixtures in the final four. What remains clear is that Maltese football cannot afford to lose referees with his level of expertise. Figures like Zammit are increasingly rare, and their value to the local game is immeasurable.
As he continues adding to his record, Fyodor Zammit stands as a testament to endurance, professionalism and passion and as a referee who has shaped Maltese football for a quarter of a century and continues to do so with undiminished dedication.
