The Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) has been penalised a total of 61,000 euros by UEFA due to incidents that occurred during their Nations League match against Romania last month, as announced by European football’s governing body on Wednesday. The game, which concluded with a 3-0 loss for Kosovo, was held on September 6 at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina, Kosovo.
The match experienced several interruptions as fans ignited and hurled flares, invaded the pitch, and whistled during the Romanian national anthem played before the start of the game. Additionally, the FFK received a warning for failing to comply with media activity obligations.
In a previous encounter during a Euro 2024 qualifier in 2023, UEFA had sanctioned the Romanian football federation (FRF) for pro-Serbia chants by their supporters. In Bucharest, the match was halted for 50 minutes after local fans chanted “Serbia, Serbia” and displayed a banner stating ‘Kosovo is Serbia’.
Kosovo proclaimed its independence from Serbia in 2008 and is recognised by over 100 countries, though Romania does not acknowledge it.
