The Malta Football Association has announced that the Board for the Investigation of Allegations of Match-Fixing in Football, on Tuesday 25th February 2025, informed the General Secretary of the Association about the decisions taken by the same Board regarding proceedings against Manwel Xerri, Qala Saints FC, and Leonard Camilleri.
The General Secretary has sent a notification to all concerned parties about the decision, and the final part of the decisions will be published through this statement.
In the first decision, entitled ‘MFA vs Manwel Xerri and Qala Saints FC’, the Board has decided to: “Declare, based on a balance of probabilities, that Mr Xerri is guilty of the corrupt act or practice committed by him, including Articles 2 and 3 of the Regulations; Suspend Mr Xerri for life, according to Article 6 (ii) (a) of the Regulations, with the exception of Article 6(ii)(b); Declare the Club not guilty of the charges brought against it.”
In the second decision, entitled ‘MFA vs Leonard Camilleri’, the Board has decided to: “Declare, based on a balance of probabilities, that Mr Camilleri is guilty of the corrupt act or practice, including Articles 2 and 3 of the Regulations; Suspend Mr Camilleri for life, according to Article 6(ii)(a) of the Regulations, with the exception of Article 6(ii)(b).”
Furthermore, the decisions made are subject to appeal according to the Regulations (Section IX Disciplinary Procedures and Sanctions). The Malta Football Association also informs that this information has already been passed on to the Association’s Executive Board and the Gozo Football Association, and that no further comments will be made while the case is still under judicial review.
