Everton returned to winning ways with a 2-0 home victory over a disappointing Fulham, thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane. The win was only Everton’s second in eight games.
After losing their previous home match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton aimed to bounce back against a Fulham side they had struggled to beat in their last four visits to Merseyside. The Toffees started brightly, but Theirno Barry continued his wait for a first goal as his header from Iliman Ndiaye’s cross went wide. James Garner’s long-range free-kick was also saved by Bernd Leno. Everton kept up the pressure, and Gueye eventually scored after a scramble in the box, following a header from James Tarkowski that hit the crossbar.
Fulham showed more intent after half-time but Everton remained the stronger team. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had a goal ruled out, and Fulham substitute Rodrigo Muniz’s low shot was saved by Jordan Pickford. Everton sealed the win when Michael Keane scored his second goal of the season.
The victory gives Everton three points before the international break and marks David Moyes’ 20th Premier League win over Fulham, the team he has beaten most in the league. Fulham, meanwhile, suffered their fifth consecutive away defeat, leaving Marco Silva plenty to consider.
