Brian Brobbey scored a dramatic 94th-minute equaliser as Sunderland held Premier League leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw, extending their unbeaten home run to six matches this season.
Arsenal started brightly with Declan Rice testing goalkeeper Robin Roefs from a free-kick. Sunderland soon responded, and former Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard opened the scoring after reacting quickest to Nordi Mukiele’s header, ending Arsenal’s run of eight clean sheets in a row. The visitors had chances to level before half-time but failed to take them.
After the break, Arsenal applied more pressure. Bukayo Saka equalised with a calm finish after good work from Mikel Merino. Leandro Trossard then put Arsenal in front with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.
However, Sunderland refused to give up, and Brobbey’s late acrobatic finish earned the hosts a valuable point. Arsenal missed the chance to move nine points clear at the top, while Sunderland climbed to third after extending their unbeaten run to four matches.
