Fiorentina demand a "severe" punishment for the attack on their captain

Fiorentina asked for an “appropriate” punishment after the team’s captain Cristiano Biraghi suffered a head injury in the Conference League final against West Ham.

The final of the Conference League in Prague, in which West Ham celebrated (2:1), was interrupted for a few minutes after half an hour of the game as fans of the English team threw a hard object at Biragi as he prepared to take a corner.

The injury required eight stitches after the match, Fiorentina said.

Fiorentina said in a statement that this “unacceptable behavior clearly affected the performance of Biraghi and his teammates” as “their attention was diverted from football matters due to security threats”.

The Italian club also stated that it is sure that the European Football Union (UEFA) will carefully evaluate the situation and adequately punish those responsible, thus setting an example so that such situations would never happen again.
