Harry Kane will sit out Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga trip to Freiburg on Saturday but is expected to be fit for their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.
The England striker picked up an ankle problem during the international break and did not feature in England’s friendly loss to Japan. He has not recovered in time for the weekend fixture.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany confirmed the news on Friday, saying Kane had been training well up until Sunday before feeling something in his ankle whilst away with his country. Kompany added that he remains hopeful about Kane’s availability for Tuesday.
The situation is further complicated by the absence of backup striker Nicolas Jackson, who is suspended for the Freiburg match. Despite this, Bayern remain nine points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga and are closing in on back-to-back titles.

Separately, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that defender Raphael Guerreiro will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Portugal full-back, who joined from Dortmund three years ago and has scored 12 goals in 89 appearances, is reportedly attracting interest from Juventus.
