The Malta BMX community came together on Thursday, 12th December, and Friday, 13th December, for the highly anticipated Jake Vella BMX Fest Xmas Edition 2024, held at the Malta BMX Track and Indoor Warehouse in Pembroke. The two-day event brought together riders of all ages and skill levels, showcasing the best of BMX talent in a series of races and competitions that attracted an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.

The event kicked off on Thursday with high-energy BMX races across different age categories, with Scott Saliba Balzia (7–10 years), Lorenzo Baraggioli (10–13 years), and Yashua Bonett (13 and over) emerging as champions in their respective groups. Friday featured a variety of skill-based competitions, including BMX Park, where Yashua Bonett and David Aldana claimed victory in Group B and Group A, respectively. Gianni Zahra impressed the judges and spectators alike, winning both the Best Trick and Bunny Hop contests. A special moment during the event was the presentation of the Most Improved Rider of the Year Award to Simon Vella, a recognition of his dedication and progress throughout the year. This prestigious annual trophy was presented by Mr. Alfred Abela.

This year’s BMX Fest was particularly meaningful as it was held in memory of the late Jake Vella, a cherished member of the community who was honoured with the prestigious Gieh ir-Repubblika on the same day. The BMX community was deeply honoured by the presence of Jake’s father, Mr. Josie Vella, who joined in presenting the winners’ medals in his son’s honour.

The event was organized by Malta BMX President John Zammit and the dedicated Malta BMX crew, whose efforts ensured the success of this unforgettable weekend. The Malta BMX community extends its heartfelt thanks to all the participants, supporters, and volunteers who contributed to making this event a celebration of talent, passion, and community spirit.
