Lando Norris increased his Formula 1 championship lead to nine points after winning the sprint race in São Paulo on Saturday. His McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, crashed out early, dealing a major blow to his title hopes.
Norris started from pole position, with Piastri third on the grid. However, the Australian lost control on a wet kerb on lap six and hit the barriers, forcing him out of the race.
After a short stoppage for barrier repairs, the race restarted with Norris in front, followed by Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. Norris held his lead to the end, finishing 0.845 seconds ahead of Antonelli, while Russell took third place.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came fourth and now sits 39 points behind Norris in the overall standings.
