The Canadian Grand Prix will remain a fixture on the Formula One calendar until at least 2035, following the announcement of a four-year extension to its existing contract, the sport’s organisers confirmed on Tuesday.
The renewal also includes a long-term extension of Bell Media’s broadcasting rights, further solidifying the event’s presence in Canadian media. Last weekend’s race at the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve marked the 54th running of the Grand Prix since it first appeared on the world championship schedule in 1967.

The Montreal circuit, named after the legendary Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve father of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has been the permanent host since 1978. Over recent years, significant upgrades have been carried out, thanks to the efforts of the promoter, Octane Racing Group, and close collaboration with local, regional, and national political authorities.
Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali praised the partnership, stating: “I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their continued efforts in upgrading this iconic venue in recent years, and all local, regional, and national political stakeholders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today.”
The previous contract extension was set to run until 2029, though the calendar was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 races. This led to the deal being prolonged to 2031 before today’s further extension.

In a scheduling update, next year’s Canadian Grand Prix will take place earlier than usual, with the race set for 24 May. This date change follows a swap with the Monaco Grand Prix and brings the event closer in timing to the Miami Grand Prix.
With this new agreement, the Canadian Grand Prix’s future in Montreal looks secure for well over a decade, continuing its legacy as a highlight of the Formula One season.
