Napoli made it four wins from four in their Serie A title defence with a 3–2 victory over newly promoted Pisa, as Leonardo Spinazzola produced a goal and an assist at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
On the longest unbeaten run across Europe’s top five leagues coming into the game, the champions were frustrated for much of a cagey opening. Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay both had half chances before Spinazzola cut the ball back on 39 minutes for Billy Gilmour, who drove a left foot shot that deflected past Adrian Semper.
Pisa almost replied immediately when Mehdi Leris was denied by Alex Meret at the near post, and the visitors kept pressing after the interval. Their pressure told when Sam Beukema was penalised for handball in the six yard box and M’Bala Nzola levelled from the spot.
Napoli responded with authority. Spinazzola worked a yard on the edge of the area and swept a fine finish into the bottom corner, before substitute Lorenzo Lucca lashed McTominay’s pass high into the net eight minutes from time for his first goal for the club.
There was late anxiety when Lorran tapped in Samuele Angori’s cut back in stoppage time, but Antonio Conte’s side held firm to extend their unbeaten home sequence in the league to 13 matches, ten wins and three draws.
