Juventus ex-officials agree to plea deals

Juventus ex-president Agnelli and senior staff strike plea deals in Prisma investigation.

A judge in Rome has approved plea bargains for a number of former Juventus executives in connection with the so-called “Prisma” investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the club.

Former president Andrea Agnelli accepted a suspended sentence of one year and eight months, while his former vice-president Pavel Nedved agreed to a suspended term of one year and two months.

Other senior figures also reached settlements. Former sporting director Fabio Paratici and ex-chief legal officer Cesare Gabasio both received suspended sentences of one year and six months. Former chief financial officers Stefano Cerrato and Marco Re, as well as former chief operating officer Stefano Bertola, were handed one-year suspended terms.

All punishments above 12 months include financial penalties in addition to suspended custodial sentences.

Maurizio Arrivabene, who served as Juventus chief executive, was cleared of wrongdoing after prosecutors themselves requested his acquittal.

The club itself was fined €156,750, while compensation agreements with around a third of the 221 civil parties admitted to the case amounted to a total of €1.08m. Gabasio was the only senior official not involved in these settlements.

The Prisma inquiry centred on accusations of false accounting in relation to player transfers, as well as charges of market manipulation and obstruction of regulatory oversight.

Juventus, one of Italy’s most decorated clubs, has faced a series of sporting and financial scandals in recent years. The latest court ruling brings to an end one chapter of the long-running investigation, although the reputational impact for both the club and its former directors is expected to linger.
