European Aquatics and Fluidra launch pool modernisation and swimming access initiative

European Aquatics and Fluidra have announced a new partnership aimed at modernising public pool infrastructure and expanding access to swimming education across Europe.

The collaboration introduces two programmes focused on addressing aging aquatic facilities and improving access to swimming opportunities in regions with limited infrastructure.

According to the organisations, more than 24,000 public pools across Europe are currently considered obsolete, raising concerns related to safety, efficiency and sustainability.

The first initiative, the Refurbishment Programme, will provide free technical audits for aquatic facilities throughout Europe without obligation. Following the assessments, Fluidra will offer recommendations designed to improve safety standards, increase operational and energy efficiency, extend facility lifespan and support compliance with modern sustainability and digital requirements.

The second initiative, the Learn to Swim programme, will use mobile pools to deliver swimming education in more than 50 regions that currently lack aquatic infrastructure.

The portable pools are designed for rapid installation and include integrated water treatment systems. The programme aims to provide flexible access to swimming lessons while promoting water safety, inclusion and healthier lifestyles.

Antonio Silva, President of European Aquatics, said the partnership reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting sustainable development within the aquatic sector and improving access to quality facilities across Europe.

He added that Fluidra’s international experience, engineering expertise and technological capabilities would support the implementation of the initiatives on a larger scale.

Thorsten Muck, Commercial Pool Director at Fluidra, said the collaboration represents an important step towards a more sustainable, accessible and innovative aquatic sector across Europe.

The agreement builds on an existing partnership between the two organisations in relation to events and competition pools, while expanding cooperation into projects with a broader social focus.
