Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has been forced to withdraw from the 2026 Tour de France, dealing a major blow to the race and to his Visma–Lease a Bike team.
The organisers confirmed the Dane’s withdrawal on Sunday, with the Tour de France’s official social media channels posting a simple message: “Get well soon Jonas.”
Vingegaard had been one of the favourites to challenge for the overall title, and his exit significantly changes the battle for the yellow jersey in the final stages of the race.
The exact extent of his condition has not yet been fully detailed, but his withdrawal follows concerns over his fitness after recent events during the Tour.

His departure leaves the general classification wide open, with the remaining contenders now set to battle for cycling’s biggest prize.
