Raducanu suffers Wimbledon heartbreak after late withdrawal

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from Wimbledon just hours before her opening-round match after scans revealed a stress fracture in her lower right leg.

The British No. 1 had said on Sunday that she intended to play despite ongoing discomfort and was due to face Antonia Ružić in the first round. However, a final medical assessment confirmed the injury had worsened, forcing the former US Open champion to pull out on the eve of the tournament.

Raducanu said she had done “everything possible” to be ready for Wimbledon but had been advised not to continue. It is another injury setback for the 23-year-old, whose career has been repeatedly interrupted by fitness problems since her breakthrough Grand Slam triumph in 2021.
