Iga Swiatek showcased remarkable resilience to lead Poland into the semi-finals of the United Cup mixed team tennis tournament in Sydney. Overcoming a first-set deficit, Swiatek defeated Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-4, securing Poland’s decisive 2-0 lead over Great Britain.
The match, extending nearly three hours, saw Swiatek recover from losing the initial set in a tiebreak. She dominated the second set and maintained composure in the third, even as she sought medical attention for a leg issue. This victory ensures Poland’s progression to the semi-finals, where they are set to face Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Hubert Hurkacz contributed significantly to Poland’s success by securing his first win of the tournament. He triumphed over Billy Harris with a 7-6(3), 7-5 result, setting a positive tone for the team’s performance.
Swiatek’s determination was evident as she battled through physical discomfort to clinch the match. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I’m really happy with my game, and also how the atmosphere in the team is.”
