Jannik Sinner is closing in on his return to competitive tennis, with the world number one expected to travel to China after appearing at the Gucci fashion show in Milan. Sinner has been sidelined for more than two months because of a tendon problem in his right knee but has recently stepped up his training.
Sinner is expected in Beijing on Sunday ahead of the ATP 500 tournament, which begins on 30 September. The Italian has not played an official match since the Wimbledon final in July and will return to competition as the defending champion, having won the China Open in both 2023 and 2025.

His recovery began with treatment and rehabilitation in Turin before he returned to court in Monte Carlo. Sinner has since increased the intensity of his training sessions, including a high-level practice with Flavio Cobolli as he continued to assess the condition of his knee.
The Beijing tournament will be an important test as Sinner looks to regain his competitive rhythm. He is expected to be the top seed and will also be looking to protect his position at the top of the ATP rankings, with Alexander Zverev among the players chasing him.
Sinner’s schedule could then include the Shanghai Masters, the Vienna Open, the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin, although his participation in some events remains subject to his physical condition.
