Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title after producing a superb comeback to defeat Alexander Zverev in four sets and retain his place at the top of world tennis.
The world No. 1 recovered from losing a tightly-contested opening set to prevail 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 after a gripping three-hour and 48-minute final at the All England Club.
The opening two sets were dominated by serve, with both players giving away very little. Zverev edged the first tie-break after Sinner made a costly error at 7-7, but the Italian responded brilliantly in the second-set tie-break, racing away 7-2 to level the contest.
The decisive moment arrived midway through the third set. Sinner first saved only the second break point of the entire match before immediately breaking Zverev’s serve for the first time to take control. He closed out the set 6-3 and carried that momentum into the fourth.
With the score locked at 3-3 in the final set, Sinner struck again with another crucial break. Although Zverev fought until the end and created two break-point opportunities in the closing game, the Italian held his nerve to seal a memorable victory.
The triumph gives Sinner his fifth Grand Slam title and a second consecutive Wimbledon championship, further strengthening his position as the world’s leading men’s player.
