The American tennis player Serena Williams qualified for the second round of the US Open Championship in New York, after defeating the 80th tennis player in the world Danka Kovinic from Montenegro after two sets, 6:3, 6:3.
Williams, the 605th tennis player in the world, won after one hour and 42 minutes.
She broke Kovinić’s serve five times, and made two breaks.
Six-time US Open champion Williams will play against second-seeded Estonian Annette Kontaveit in the second round.
The winner of 23 Grand Slam titles announced three weeks ago that the US Open will be the last tournament of her career, as she wants to devote herself to her family and business obligations, so this will be her “last dance”.
The match broke the US Open attendance record, as 29,402 fans attended the night session. Of those, more than 23,000 watched the match from the stands at center field, and the rest via the large video screens at Flushing Meadows.
