Sabalenka, Świątek and Djokovic set for intriguing French Open paths

Iga Świątek and Novak Djokovic have been handed challenging routes at the French Open, while Aryna Sabalenka begins her campaign against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Sabalenka’s projected path includes a potential last 16 meeting with former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, with a possible semi final rematch against Coco Gauff, the defending champion.

Gauff opens her campaign against fellow American Taylor Townsend, with Anastasia Potapova a possible third round opponent.

Świątek has been drawn into a demanding section despite opening against Emerson Jones. A third round meeting with Jelena Ostapenko is possible, with Ostapenko holding a strong head to head record in their previous meetings.

Further challenges could include Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round and Elina Svitolina in the quarter finals. Both players arrive in strong form following recent WTA titles.

On the men’s side, Djokovic, a 24 time Grand Slam champion, opens against home favourite Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, with a possible third round match against João Fonseca and a fourth round encounter with Casper Ruud.

World number one Jannik Sinner begins his campaign against Clément Tabur and is projected to meet Matteo Berrettini in the third round and Ben Shelton in the quarter finals.

Alexander Zverev, the top seed in his section, opens against Benjamin Bonzi, with potential clashes against Taylor Fritz in the quarter finals and either Félix Auger-Aliassime or Daniil Medvedev in the semi finals.

French veterans Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka are also part of notable opening round matches, as Monfils faces Hugo Gaston and Wawrinka takes on Arthur Fils in what are expected to draw strong home support.
