What a spectacular end to a competitive day in the men’s singles in Melbourne. Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was eliminated from the Australian Open. The American Sebastian Korda was better than him in the third round – 3:0 (7:6, 6:3, 7:6).
If anything has become clear by now, it is the fact that absolutely none of the favorites are untouchable on AO.
The elimination of Rafael Nadal, Kasper Rud, and Sasha Zverev did not “wise up” Medvedev, who became another “victim” of the first Grand Slam of the season.
The son of the former world number two, Petr Korda, showed exceptional mental strength against one of the best tennis players today.
Medvedev hit nine aces, compared to only three for Korda, but the American had 21 winners more and got to numerous break opportunities with his great hitting.
In the round of 16, Korda will face tenth seed Hubert Hurkacz from Poland.
It seems that the path to the title is open for Novak Djokovic!
As a reminder, Novak will play a 3rd round match against Grigor Dimitrov on Saturday around 9 am.
