Kimberly Birrell won her first WTA title on Sunday after beating fellow Australian Maya Joint 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the Korea Open in Seoul.
The world number 60 made a slow start, losing her opening service game to fall 2-0 behind. However, Birrell quickly recovered, winning the next four games before serving out the first set.
Joint, ranked 99th in the world, struggled in the second set and lost all four of her service games as Birrell moved closer to victory.

The 27-year-old Australian, who was seeded second, completed the win to claim the first WTA title of her career.
Top seed and former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko was knocked out in the last 16 by another Australian, Taylah Preston.
