Jannik Sinner ready to begin grass court season at ATP 500 Halle

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is set to kick off his grass court season at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Germany, just days after his five-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final. The Italian player is now shifting his attention to defending his title in Halle, which he won last year by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.

Upon his arrival in Germany, Sinner was warmly received and recognised for completing his first full year at the top of the ATP rankings. The 22-year-old had taken a short break after an intense clay court season, during which he reached the finals in both Rome and Paris. The Italian tennis champion reportedly said that he had spent time at home with friends and family, enjoying simple moments such as playing table tennis and attending a family barbecue. These ordinary experiences, he suggested, had helped him to recharge mentally and physically.

Reflecting on the Roland Garros final, Sinner acknowledged that it had been a high-level match. Although the result had not gone in his favour, he believed that such moments were part of every top athlete’s journey.

In Halle, Sinner will begin his campaign against a qualifier. If successful, he may face either Alexander Bublik, whom he recently beat at Roland Garros, or Alexandre Muller in the round of 16. Potential quarter-final opponents include Tomas Machac, Hubert Hurkacz, or Miomir Kecmanovic, against whom Sinner has a positive head-to-head record.

The semi-finals could feature matchups against Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, or Felix Auger-Aliassime, while a possible final might include top-ranked players such as Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Francisco Cerundolo, or Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Sinner is also set to take part in the doubles event alongside Lorenzo Sonego, using the opportunity to sharpen his game in preparation for Wimbledon.

Following a strong clay court season and with the support of those around him, Sinner appears well-positioned to make another deep run—this time on grass.
