I'm not here to retire, I'm here to help the team win' - Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal insists he will stay focused in the final tournament of his illustrious career and not be swayed by emotion as he aims to help Spain win the Davis Cup.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who has announced his retirement after representing Spain at the men’s team event in Malaga, is determined to keep his attention on the task at hand. Spain will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, though it remains uncertain whether the 38-year-old Nadal will be fit enough to play a major role.

Having competed in just seven tournaments this year due to ongoing injury struggles, Nadal made it clear that his focus is solely on helping the team.

“I’m not here to retire; I’m here to help the team win,” said Nadal, who revealed last month that this would be his farewell tournament. “It’s a team competition, and the most important thing is for all of us to stay focused on what we need to do—play tennis and do it well. The emotions can come later, at the end.”
