World number one Iga Swiatek has added Belgian Wim Fissette, a former coach to top-ranked players like Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka to her team, the 23-year-old Pole said on Thursday.
Earlier this month, the five-times Grand Slam champion had parted ways with her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after three years.
Wiktorowski had joined Swiatek’s team before the 2022 season and had been with her during four of her five Grand Slam wins, including three French Open victories.
“I’m thrilled to share that Wim Fissette has joined our team,” Swiatek announced on the social media platform X. “As you might be aware, I’m gearing up for the WTA Finals, but my outlook remains focused on the long-term rather than immediate gains. I’ve often stated that my career is akin to a marathon, not a sprint, and I make my decisions based on this philosophy. I’m genuinely excited and eager to collaborate with Wim. He brings a positive mindset, a clear vision, and extensive experience at the pinnacle of tennis. It’s vital for us to get acquainted well, and I’m pleased to say we’re off to a promising start. I eagerly await the chance to compete soon.”
