Coco Gauff has reached the semi-finals of the Toronto Masters after advancing through her quarter-final without taking to the court.
The world number four was awarded a walkover after Belinda Bencic withdrew from their scheduled quarter-final due to a hip injury.
Bencic said she had tried everything possible to be ready but was ultimately unable to compete, bringing her tournament to an end.
Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion, will now face Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals.
Rybakina booked her place in the last four after overcoming Naomi Osaka in a dramatic three-set battle, winning 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The reigning Australian Open champion produced 13 aces during the two-hour, 33-minute contest and recovered strongly after losing the opening set.
Rybakina also saved four break points in the sixth game of the deciding set before breaking Osaka for a 4-3 lead. She then sealed victory with an ace on her second serve.
The Kazakh will now meet Gauff for a place in the Toronto final. The American won their only previous meeting, which came in the third round of the 2022 Toronto tournament.
The other semi-final will see Poland’s Iga Swiatek take on Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.
