Iga Swiatek says her semi-final defeat at the French Open helped take the pressure off as she prepares for her first Wimbledon final.
The world number one produced a dominant performance to beat Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-final. It marks a breakthrough for Swiatek, who has previously struggled on grass.
Having won four French Open titles, Swiatek admitted she is more comfortable on clay. However, losing in Paris this year helped lower expectations heading into Wimbledon.
“Losing in Paris gave me space to breathe and reset. It lowered the expectations a bit and helped me focus better here,” she said.
Swiatek has dropped just one set during the tournament and believes her movement and confidence on grass have improved.
“I’m serving well, feeling confident, and just going for it,” she added.
She will now face Amanda Anisimova in Saturday’s final.
