Djokovic reaches Wimbledon quarter-finals with record-breaking win

Novak Djokovic reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Sunday.

The victory was Djokovic’s 106th match win at Wimbledon, giving him the record for the most men’s singles wins at the All England Club.

The seventh seed did not have an easy match. He made several mistakes early on and had to save two set points when he was 5-2 down in the opening set. However, he recovered to win the tie-break.

Safiullin, ranked world number 132, continued to challenge Djokovic despite returning from a long spell out with a hip injury. The Russian won the third set after breaking Djokovic’s serve.

Djokovic raised his level in the fourth set to seal the victory and book his place in the last eight.
