Djokovic rallies past De Minaur to set up Quarter-Final clash with Cobolli

Novak Djokovic produced a trademark comeback at Wimbledon to defeat Australia’s Alex de Minaur and secure his place in the quarter-finals, where he will now face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli.

The 38-year-old Serbian star was forced to dig deep after a disastrous opening set, eventually prevailing 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Centre Court in a match that underlined his enduring class and resilience.

De Minaur came out of the blocks in blistering fashion, dominating the first set and breaking Djokovic twice to take it 6-1. The former world number one struggled with rhythm and consistency, while the Australian looked sharp and aggressive.

However, as he has done so often in his storied career, Djokovic responded in typically defiant fashion. Despite facing 10 break points throughout the contest, including two in the crucial moments of the second set, he managed to regain composure and edge out the next three sets.

The second set saw Djokovic raise his level on return, while remaining under pressure on serve. He eventually took it 6-4, breaking De Minaur at a critical moment to level the match.

The third set was tighter, with both players holding serve through the first eight games. But at 4-4, Djokovic capitalised on a slight dip from the Australian, converting his second break point to take a decisive lead and closing out the set.

In the fourth, De Minaur once again took charge, racing to a 4-1 lead and looking poised to force a decider. Yet Djokovic, as relentless as ever, stormed back with five consecutive games, including two crucial breaks, to complete a stunning turnaround.

The four-set victory sets up a tantalising quarter-final meeting with 22-year-old Flavio Cobolli, who is enjoying a breakout tournament at Wimbledon.

With this win, Djokovic continues to defy age and expectation, proving that he remains a force to be reckoned with on the sport’s biggest stages.
