Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his expectations before the start of the tournament in Miami.
At the Australian Open, many players complained about playing with “Dunlop” balls, and the Greek tennis player pointed out that some tennis players were injured because of it.
Holger Rune and Sebastian Korda had wrist problems, although they did not point out that the balls were to blame.
“I think this year the change in the balls is something that has been discussed a lot among the players. The balls should stay the same in most tournaments, especially those on fast surfaces. It benefits our players and protects us from injuries. I heard comments from other players about the balls at the beginning of the year and it all took a toll on the shoulders, wrists, and hands in general. I think that’s where my injury comes from,” said Tsitsipas.
Since the final of the Australian Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic, Tsitsipas has celebrated only three times. At the first Masters of the year, he lost in the first round to Jordan Thompson, and now the competition in Miami follows.
“I hope that in Miami I will play without pain and that I will be able to show something different on the field than in Indian Wells. It was a tournament where I suffered a lot, it was not easy to be on the court, but it was as if I was forced to do it. I actually didn’t want that. You have certain ATP rules that force you to play big tournaments, and I’m not one of those people who likes to retire and give up after a couple of games. I hope that on the courts in Miami, I will be able to enjoy myself more and not think too much about my hand. Good luck, now I feel better”, said the Greek tennis player.
Tsitsipas will start his participation in the tournament in Miami in the second round, and he will play with the better of the duel between Richard Gasquet and Chris O’Connell.
