This 67-minute win marked Zverev’s 60th victory of the season, equalling his personal best set in 2018. He remained untroubled by any break points and impressively secured 23 out of 24 points on his initial serve against the young Austrian, aged 18.
In another match, Czech player Jakub Mensik defeated the eighth-seeded Alexei Popyrin from Australia with a scoreline of 7-6 (3), 6-2. Italy’s Matteo Berrettini emerged victorious over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics without facing a break point, ending the match at 7-5, 6-4. Meanwhile, Flavio Cobolli from Italy claimed a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

At the Swiss Indoors Basel, top seed Andrey Rublev from Russia swiftly dispatched Portugal’s Nuno Borges with a 6-3, 6-2 win in just 64 minutes during their opening round in Basel, Switzerland. Rublev lost only one point on his first serve (25 of 26) and concluded the match with nearly double the number of winners (21-11) compared to Borges. Rublev’s next opponent will be either Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo or Croatia’s Marin Cilic.

Fifth-seeded Ugo Humbert from France narrowly defeated Switzerland’s Jerome Kym with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (5), and 7-5. Meanwhile, Arthur Fils, also from France and seeded seventh, triumphed over Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, finishing 7-6 (5), 6-3. Additionally, first-round victories were claimed by Belgium’s David Goffin and France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
