Alcaraz ruled out of Wimbledon as injury nightmare continues

Two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from this year’s Wimbledon Championships as he continues to battle a lingering wrist injury.

The Spaniard confirmed on Tuesday that despite progress in his recovery, he is still not fit enough to return to competitive action and will also miss Queen’s Club.

“My recovery is going well, and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately, I’m still not ready to play. I am obliged to withdraw from both Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz said.

“These are two really special tournaments for me, and I’ll miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible.”

The world number two sustained the injury during the opening round of the Barcelona Open and has since been forced to pull out of Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros, where he arrived as the defending two time champion.

Alcaraz’s absence represents a huge blow for the grass court season, particularly after his recent rivalry with world number one Jannik Sinner had become one of the most anticipated storylines in world tennis.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar start to 2026, becoming the youngest player in history to complete the career Grand Slam following his triumph at the Australian Open. He currently holds a 22-3 record this season and also lifted the title in Doha.

Wimbledon will mark only the third Grand Slam tournament Alcaraz has missed since making his major debut at the Australian Open in 2021.

With Alcaraz absent, Sinner now emerges as the overwhelming favourite heading into both Paris and London as the Italian looks set to dominate the remainder of the Grand Slam season.
