Sean McCann, the younger brother of missing British girl Madeleine McCann, is preparing to represent Scotland at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as he continues his rise in competitive swimming.
The 21-year-old distance freestyle swimmer has earned a place in Scotland’s squad for the Glasgow Games after impressing through the junior ranks and international competitions. His selection marks another significant step towards his long-term ambition of representing Team GB at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Sean was just two years old when his sister Madeleine disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007, a case that attracted worldwide attention. Alongside his twin sister Amelie, he has largely stayed out of the public spotlight while focusing on his sporting career.
Now studying chemical engineering at Loughborough University, Sean trains extensively each week and has previously competed for Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games and other international events. His dedication has helped establish him as one of the country’s promising long-distance swimmers.
The Commonwealth Games will give McCann the opportunity to compete alongside some of Scotland’s top swimmers as he continues his development on the international stage.
